Iran, Iraq collaborate on new Khorramshahr-Basra shipping route: official
TEHRAN- Iran's Minister of Interior announced the conclusion of agreement between Iran and Iraq to construct a shipping line from Khorramshahr to Basra to strengthen commercial transportation between the two countries.
Ahmad Vahidi, the Minister of Interior, during a visit to the Shalamcheh crossing to coordinate necessary arrangements for the Arbaeen Walk, met his Iraqi counterpart, Abdul Amir al-Shimmari, and highlighted the necessity coordination for the construction of the Khorramshahr-Basra shipping line.
Earlier, Ali Asgari, the director general of Ports and Maritime Affairs of Khorramshahr, emphasized the commercial capacity of Khorramshahr Port in areas such as fleet safety, maritime surveillance and rescue, emergency response, commercial services, and cooperation with the Iraqi side.
Khorramshahr port has a sea passenger terminal named Persian Gulf with an area of 6,000 square meters and 2 docks, which can serve 2,500 passengers daily and coordinate the entry and exit of more than 50 cargo vessels.
